The 2023 BMW CCA Club Racing Rookie of the Year Award is sponsored by Tony Salloum’s VAC Motorsports and is presented to the Club Racing rookie BMW racer earning the most points for the year. For the 2023 season our Rookie of the Year is Michael Deming. Michael is a December 2022 BimmerWorld Club Race School graduate who campaigned in Spec E36 in his 1996 328is. Michael gathered up 153 National event points on the way to gaining this RoY recognition.
The 2023 Glenn Lucas Memorial Award, presented to the Club Racer who most represents the Spirit of Club Racing both on and off the track is awarded to Marc Thomaes. Marc holds BMW CCA Club Racing license #143, having raced with Club Racing since the very beginning and remains competitive in his E30 M3, having been PWR2 National Champion in 2022.
As most know, Marc has been our Class Advocate and PWR rules team member for the past two years, leading the growth of the combined PWR classes to more than 30 cars from the modest dozen PWR competitors that ran with us in 2022. Marc’s been a consistent presence at NJMP, Summit Point and Watkins Glen and he’s recognized for his ability to generously share what is important with PWR drivers who are often some of our newest racers.
Marc’s ongoing efforts to help improve and advance our racing program made his selection by the National Stewards as the 2023 Glen Lucas Memorial Award winner an easy decision.
Our BMW CCA Club Racing Annual Driver awards are both accompanied by $1000 monetary recognition to each of the winners.
Congratulations to Michael and Marc!
