dedicated to continuous improvement, BMW CCA Club Racing is constantly on the lookout for talented and experienced leadership, and we’ve just won a doubleheader. I am extremely pleased to announce that David Gelardi has been appointed to the new role of Director, Driver Development, and Mirril McMullen is joining the team as our new Director of Time Trials.
Mirril joined the BMW CCA in 1998, graduating from our BimmerWorld sponsored school held at NHMS in 2010. He received his race license in 2011 and has since continuously campaigned the same e36 in JP. He is Tech Director for the NJ chapter of BMW CCA, and at last count owns 8 BMW’s – supplying both his family members and club members with a perpetual supply of hardware and proving the adage that for a car guy, the garage is always too small.
David joined the BMW CCA in 1993 and has done, well, everything on the HPDE side of the ledger as Chief Instructor, In-Car and Classroom Instructor, working with chapters all over the northeast and Canada. He also continues as a member of the Patroon Chapter Driving Events Committee and is part of the new M Chapter leadership team. Many Club Racers have worked with David in-car and benefited from his classroom and track walk instruction, something he particularly loves to do. Also a consummate wrench, David loves working on his cars where a BMW 2002 is undergoing a significant cosmetic and mechanical restoration. His current track car is an E36 M3 with a host of safety mods and typical upgrades.
Both David and Mirril have been working behind the scenes with CR. David aced the role of Instructor Coordinator at our August BimmerWorld BMW CCA Club Race school at Watkins Glen and then joined us at our Lime Rock race where his guidance during track walks was a highlight of his many contributions to the weekend. Mirril made the journey from NJ to the Lone Star chapter’s Hallett Club Race in September, where he supported the Time Trial also put on by the chapter.
The Club Racing team is looking forward to David’s contributions in the driver development area as we look to capitalize on excellence in instruction at all levels within the BMW CCA driving continuum (HPDE to Time Trial to Race School to Club Racing), while Mirril will be lightening the heavy load our original TT Director, Gary Bohn is carrying for us. Gary got the extremely successful BMW-TT program off the ground for us in 2014 – developing TT events for our members that offer a driver a competitive step up from driving school, instructing, and Auto-X. The opportunity for him to support Mirril with the ongoing TT program and the driver development effort David will leading adds important depth to both efforts.
We’re extremely pleased to have both David and Mirril join the CR team and we all look forward to their contributions to the program!
